The diode is wired CATHODE to POSITIVE wire and ANODE to NEGATIVE wire. (Crowbar: If power is reversed or 15V is exceded the diode conducts and the fuse blows.) You can take an off the shelf Cigarette lighter plug apart and add the diode and change the fuse and have your power cord. --- In FT817@yahoogroups.com, "i2jjr" wrote: > PLease pay attention, many cars usually may give more than 15V at the cigarette lighter . My biggest concern is the ergonomics of the radio - the screen and dial (and other controls) are too small for regular mobile work. I found this out during an almost 2000 mile road trip. I found that if I used the selector knob to move in 2.5 kHz tuning steps or move between memories then that was ok, but trying to read the dial and use the tuning knob was much more challenging. > If your mobile use is occasional, and with the caveats mentioned above, then the 817 will do fine. The HL-50B amp is a great partner. Mine sits under the passenger front seat . 73, Mike, KC4VG/0 ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== ===================================================================== =====================================================================
