IC-706MKII Detailed Description

3 Step Selectable Passband Width
The IC-706MkII has improved passband width selection. A maximum of 2 optional crystal filter units can be installed, providing a total of 3 passband widths selectable in SSB, CW, or RTTY mode.

Tone Squelch Function is Available
The IC-706MkII has an optional tone squelch unit, UT-86, for FM mode operation: useful during 144 MHz band and 6 meter band operation. In addition, a programmable CTCSS subaudible tone and a 1750 Hz tone encoder are standard.

Simplified Operation
An individual band change key and a SUB DIAL simplify operation. The individual band change keys provide quick and easy QSY, while the SUB DIAL facilitates mobile operation and memory operation. Each band stores pre-amplifier/attenuator and tuner ON/OFF settings. In addition RIT variable range adjustment is more convenient because the SUB DIAL is used for RIT control.

Superior Audio Characteristics
The SSB filter is a newly designed FL-272 (2.4 kHz/-6dB, 4.8 kHz/-60db). A large 66 mm (d) speaker provides plenty of audio. Together they help the IC-706MkII provide superior receive and transmit audio characteristics.

Thermally Controlled Cooling Fan
The internal cooling fan is thermally controlled to reduce cooling fan noise during receiving.

Compact and Feather Light
The IC-706MkII is incredibly small with dimensions of 167(w) x 58(h) x 200(d) mm (6-9/16 x 2-9/32 x 7-7/8 inches). A mobile sized transceiver packed with base station features. Excellent performance allows this transceiver to be used as your main rig for the HF and VHF bands. Of course many will be tempted to use the IC-706 MkII for mobile operation and on DX'peditions. Whatever your choice you can't go wrong.

Detachable Front Panel
The IC-706MkII sports a detachable front panel. Both the main unit and detachable front panel have microphone connectors providing numerous mounting options in both a vehicle or a shack.

IF Shift Interference Rejection System
IF shift is effective to reduce adjacent frequency interference in SSB, and enables comfortable operation even under crowded band conditions, such as during contests. The IF shift setting condition is graphically indicated on the LCD.

Functions for CW Operations
--Electronic keyer with a variable weight control function.
--CW reverse function to reduce adjacent interference.
--CW pitch can be adjusted in the range of 300-900 Hz.
--CW narrow mode (optional CW narrow filter is required).
--Full break-in (QSK) is available.

Spectrum Scope Function
Sweeps ±14 steps from, the displayed frequency and plots received signal strength on the function display. This function is useful not only for seeking vacant channels during VHF/FM operation, but also for checking HF band conditions.

Narrow-FM Capability
Narrow-FM mode is becoming increasingly popular. Narrow-FM capability is available not only in the 10 M band, but also the 2 M band, allowing you to take maximum advantage of this operating style. Deviation is ±2.5 kHz for transmit and ±4 kHz for receive.

102 Memory Channels with Alphanumeric Names
The IC-706MkII has up to 102 memory channels. 99 channels are split memories that can memorize both transmit and receive frequencies individually. 2 channels are for programmed scan edges, and 1 channel is for call memory on the 144 MHz band. In addition, up to 9-character alphanumeric names can be programmed into each memory channel. This provides a convenient memory management system.

Dot-Matrix Display
The IC-706MkII's large LCD has a dot-matrix readout under the frequency display. By using the menu-function switch you can clearly read multi-function key descriptions on the LCD. Moreover, the graphical menu function indicates transmit frequency during split frequency operation, IF shift setting, spectrum scope indication, memory channel name indication, etc.

Voice Synthesizer
The optional voice synthesizer unit, UT-102, provides a unique speech function. A clear, electronically generated voice announces not only operating frequency and modes, but also the current S-meter level.

Optional Antenna Tuner
An optional, fully automatic antenna tuner, the AT-180, is available and covers the 3.5 MHz to 50 MHz bands. Style and size are matching with the IC-706MkII.

MORE OUTSTANDING FEATURES
--WFM mode for listening to FM broadcasting, etc.
--Digital S-meter with peak-hold function
--Variable SSB carrier-point
--Auto tuning step selection
--Speech compressor
--Built-in pre-amplifier
--RIT, VOX and noise blanker are standard
--Built-in CI-V serial communications port
